Batman & Robin, starring George Clooney as Batman with nipples did not come off well with audiences and critics.
The now 77-year-old director Joel Schumacher (Flatliners, The Jury) takes the 20th anniversary as an opportunity to back in to the many fans for his comic book movie Batman & Robin apologize publicly in 1997.
"I want to apologize to every fan who was disappointed because I think I am them guilty Schumacher admits openly."
He would take full responsibility for the failed project. the film crew especially he is sorry that has purely hung in the comic book movie.
"I have the feeling that their work was not appreciated to the same extent as it should have been."
He also commented on the infamous Batman costume with the mounted nipples, which have gone down in film history.
"In what kind of world we live cultured, can be a problem in the two pieces of rubber in the size of pencil erasers. It will stand on my grave, I know it."
Batman movies through the ages
The DC-film Batman & Robin with George Clooney as Batman, Chris O'Donnell as Robin and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl in the fight against Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze and Uma Thurmanals Poison Ivy, was very well received in either the moviegoers even among critics and was a flop.
After Tim Burtons Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992) with Michael Keaton as Batman, Joel Schumacher led already directed the third film Batman Forever (1995) with the new Batman actor Val Kilmer. But after the movie flop Batman & Robin is set the four-part Batman series again. Only years later did director Christopher Nolan Batman the Dark Knight trilogy again successfully back into the cinemas, played by Christian Bale.
Meanwhile, Warner is planning a new Batman movie as another remake on the popular DC hero in theaters, this time with Ben Affleck as the new Batman actors from Batman v Superman.
