Chappie - Trailer: How human must be robots?
Neill Blomkamp made famous by surprise blockbuster District 9 and responsible for Elysium, returns with Chappie returned to his native Johannesburg. Similar to District 9's he all about subtle social criticism. Too bad that he thereby completely takes over and frittered away. As if not enough, he also rave rap band Die Antwoord, chosen as the "parent" for the android Chappie. Not a good idea.
The man in the machine
Deon (Dev Patel) works for Tetra Vaal, builds a defense group, the robot for the police in Johannesburg. Deon models are a success and contribute to the city for safety. But that's not enough for the young researcher, he wants more. A true artificial intelligence who think themselves and feel and can develop an awareness - that is his goal. he wrote in the night Progammiersessions the software to it's missing is a suitable body. When the Group boss (Sigourney Weaver) Deon will make no androids available, he decides to summarily sure to kidnap one. Only to find themselves, including robots, by a gang of criminals to be (Die Antwoord) kidnapped.
The crazed gangster couple Ninja and Yo-Landi want to divert namely for the attack on an armored car their new achievement. But the new titanium friend, christened Chappie, must first learn. learn a lot - because Chappie is though, thanks to software, equipped with a consciousness, but the information still need to find their way into Chappies head. If the foster parents and Deon to the task the steel giant baby raise?
Die Antwoord no question
Blomkamp has a penchant for rap rave band Die Antwoord. So much so that he already wanted to commit for Elysium and that has now transformed into Chappie. Here are the two Ninja (Watkin Tudor Jones) and Yo-Landi Although usual crazy and assi, but often seem out of place. If you know that they do not take themselves too seriously as a rule that allows a perspective that focuses on the underlying humor that but looks too artificial and flat.
The initial idea of the two petty criminals to transform Chappie into an auxiliary Gangster is nice and fun to watch, but annoying at the latest when the history and Chappies development progresses. Instead of focusing on Chappie, its development and conscience struggles to Blomkamp bogged down with the mass of subliminal messages and the film tends to indefinite verbosity.

The stereotypical figures, such as the overly aggressive ex-soldiers Vincent (Hugh Jackman), who wants to bring his own development on the market at any price, the Programmiernerd Deon (Dev Patel) and not least the two white trash thugs Ninja and Yo -Landi, let Chappie be a farce. The only bright spot, next to Sharlto Copley synchronization and motion capture performance for Chappie is Sigourney Weaver, which mimics usual routine and convincing the icy boss of the group.
Chappie between worlds
Yo-Landi Visser, lead singer of the band Die Antwoord, assumes a major role in Chappie.
If you've always wanted to travel to Johannesburg, will think of Chappie again. Already in District 9 Blomkamp worked the problems that exist still in South Africa, out and ties with Chappie at it. Slumähnliche conditions in some neighborhoods, crime and racism dominate the cityscape in Blomkamp's films. Chappie is increasingly becoming part of this society and is simply at the wrong time, wrong place.
Torn between good and evil, the more learning Android become a gangster with a conscience. It is only gradually aware that it use only his foster parents and abuse his naivety for their purposes.
Deon, its creator, has indeed want to make clear early Chappie that it strikes a dangerous path, but like all children, even Chappie has to make even his experiences. Unfortunately, these absolutely compelling moments of doubt, too rare. Blomkamp shows namely exactly where its strength: Working out the subtle criticism and its ability Characters and their decision neatly. In these moments, he breathes life Chappie and credibility. More of it and less pseudo Rascals Slaptstick deposits and Chappie would have been a great movie.
